Essentials for A Great Church, Part 5

Living Victoriously Today

Today Pastor Ken will conclude the series on “Essentials for a Great Church.”  The emphasis for today will be on overcoming the temptations of life and what is called, the perfecting of holiness.

A great church is one where God’s people learn to honor by living by grace and by allowing God’s grace to root out grievous and besetting sins to release God’s Spirit to flow through us and out to our community.

Welcome to All
As We Worship Our God!

Essentials of a Great Church, Part 5

LIVING VICTORIOUSLY TODAY

Leviticus 9:3.  “‘Among those who approach me I will show myself holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honored.’”

Leviticus 9:1-3:  Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to his command. So fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD. Moses then said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD spoke of when he said:‘Among those who approach me I will show myself holy; in the sight of all the people I will be honored.’”

Deuteronomy 27:12-13: When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin. And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali.

Joshua 8:33 All Israel, aliens and citizens alike, with their elders, officials and judges, were standing on both sides of the ark of the covenant of the LORD, facing those who carried it—the priests, who were Levites. Half of the people stood in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had formerly commanded when he gave instructions to bless the people of Israel.

I Peter 1:15-16:  But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

STAGE 1 HOLINESS:  __________________

I Corinthians 1:2:  To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:

I Peter 2:9-11: But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.  Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

STAGE 2 HOLINESS:  ______________________

Romans 12:1: Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve What God’s will is—his good and pleasing and perfect will.

STAGE 3 HOLINESS:  ______________________

2 Corinthians 7:1: Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
